My top hint for any Agile Transformation: Under any circumstances avoid learning in your organization!

My top hint for any Agile Transformation: Under any circumstances avoid learning in your organization!

Let me open up that for you…

  • Do not send people to classes beforehand, it is costly and knowledge is not required. Do not suffer now, then you can suffer for the next few years.
  • Do not do any experiments which might reveal that another way of working might be better.
  • Do not just try out things like new structural elements. It might endanger the comfort zone of individuals and endangers the status quo in your organization.
  • Do confirm that your people who have been “doing agile” already for years, do not need to learn anything new anymore. They know it all, what could there be left to learn?
  • Do believe that a two-day Scrum Master class gives you all the knowledge you need to be successful in an organization with many teams. Ignore the dynamics of your organization and copy/paste Scrum. You will be happy to enter a new world of chaos, which then reinforces old habits to get again the illusion of control.
  • Especially leaders should delegate their personal learning to their subordinates. Only then can you ensure that certainly, not much change will happen in your organization.
  • Overload your people with operational work and do not give people time and place to learn, so they will say by themselves that learning is not possible right now.
  • Last but not least, suppress human nature to the out-most. Ignore the fact that a human’s greatest skill is the ability to learn. This will destroy the last remaining element of fun at your workplace.

So there you have a brief explanation of how dangerous it is to learn. Don’t do it!

Jolly good!
